PROJECT FOCUS TRANSPORTATION AND AVIATION Nashville Avenue Terminal Complex New Orleans The third and fi nal phase of an extensive reroofi ng project on the Nashville Avenue Terminal Complex at the Port of New Orleans was completed in 2017 The three phase project began in the 1990s and spanned two decades The 853200 square foot facility is 2640 feet long and 330 feet wide and its footprint runs slightly northwest southeast on the Mississippi River The terminal building is bisected with a fi rewall The roof is divided into fi ve sections with two sections to the northwest of the fi rewall and three sections to the southeast of it In the fi rst phase of the project the 198000 square foot roof section at the furthest southeast end was replaced in 1998 During phase 2 Ray Brothers Inc replaced two built up roof membrane tar and gravel roof sections on either side of the fi rewall with 237600 square feet of its MT 240 standing seam roof system in unfi nished 22 gauge Galvalume it was completed in August 2014 In phase 3 the remaining two built up roof sections at the furthest northwest end and in between the southwest end and middle sections were replaced with metal roofi ng Construction was completed between August 2016 and May 2017 The wharf remained operational throughout the project which necessitated close coordination among construction crews To prepare the existing built up roof for phases 2 and 3 RK Hydro Vac Inc vacuumed roof ballast off a 655000 square foot area Gulf Coast Service Group completed demolition of the existing built up roof and installed structural steel components to existing roof trusses purlins and columns It also removed tongue and groove decking and wood nailers that were bolted to existing purlins For the new roof in phase 3 Ray Brothers installed 417600 square feet of its MT 240 standing seam roof system in unfi nished 22 gauge Galvalume It roll formed the 18 inch wide 180 foot long panels on the job site and installed them with continuous clips and batten caps Sealant under the batten caps was supplied by Hot Melt Technologies Inc For daylighting during phases 2 and 3 Glendale Enterprises Inc installed 66 of Kingspan Light Air LLCs formerly CPI Daylighting 132 foot long by 4 foot wide skylights To fi t the skylights in the roof Ray Brothers fabricated and installed approximately 33550 square feet of 14 gauge galvanized steel structural roof curbs and fl ashing The company also installed custom stainless steel crickets with soldered joints Also during phases 2 and 3 Ray Brothers fabricated transitions for the components to tie into existing downspout boots Ray Brothers installed 6900 feet of its 16 gauge 12 inch tall by 12 inch wide stainless steel gutters in a natural fi nish with structural stainless steel gutter brackets and hangers mounted to the building structure The gutters expansion joints are spaced with 60 foot centers and have welded joints approximately 6800 feet long Inside the terminal Ray Brothers removed and replaced smoke ventilation panels and installed 16 gauge galvanized steel sub framing for new panels Ray Brothers replaced the existing panels which were mounted to ridge trusses and gable trusses with 50000 square feet of its corrugated metal smoke ventilation panels S S Sprinkler Co LLC completed sprinkler system modifi cations and installed its system during phase 3 of the project The company removed existing hangers that were mounted to wood blocking mounted hangers to structural steel framing and installed pipe hangers and hardware to the existing sprinkler system Additionally S S Sprinkler rerouted some water lines they were un mounted from wood blocking and remounted to steel framing Transportation Market Activity and installed stainless steel square to round In February transportation construction was 499 billion up 163 percent from a year ago and down about 2 percent since January Nonresidential construction increased 13 percent from 2017 and total construction added 3 percent Since January nonresidential and total construction gained 01 percent Value of construction put in place in the U S Percent change February 2018 from February 2018
